Where Gifts are Needed
Michigan Tech sustains high-quality educational programs because of the generosity of friends and alumni. State support for higher education has declined significantly in recent years. Therefore, private support is vital to achieve our mission of helping students to create the future. We are indebted to you.
You have several options available to control where your money goes when you give to the Michigan Tech Fund. You may choose to donate to a specific project that is meaningful to you. Alternatively, you can let the University decide where the gift is most needed, or you can specify a school, department, or program that your gift will support. By letting you, the donor, decide where your gift will go, you can feel good knowing that your money is helping to improve Tech in a way that is personal to you.
Annual Fund
The Michigan Tech Annual Fund is dedicated to securing crucial, unrestricted contributions that benefit today's Michigan Tech students. Annual Fund support may be directed to a particular academic department (each department has its own unrestricted account), or it may be directed to the University's general unrestricted account. Student Support
Almost 1,500 great students at Michigan Tech, about 25% of total enrollment, receive scholarships or fellowships from private donors. Without this money, some of them would not be able to go to college. Endowed Chairs and Professorships
A major goal of the Michigan Tech Fund is to further the tradition of faculty excellence by providing endowed chairs, faculty development funds, visiting lectureships, and research support for faculty already at Tech as well as for those who might come to the University. Support for Buildings
New buildings have been very much at center stage at Tech in the late 1990s, and new rules have applied to their financing. The state of Michigan now requires that universities provide at least 25 percent of the cost of construction projects. Other Designations
You can select a department or program for your donation. Many people choose to donate to a certain department, perhaps the department from which they received their degree. Others may see great new advances coming out of a new field and want to make sure that those innovations continue.
You could choose to donate to the athletic programs here on campus, or support cultural enrichment by becoming a friend of the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts. You always have the option of deciding where your gift will go.
