Corporate Opportunities

There are a wide range of opportunities for corporations to become more involved with Michigan Tech. We have many programs in place with ample opportunity for you to get involved.

Special Programs

SAE Clean Snowmobile Competition

The Clean Snowmobile Challenge is the Society of Automotive Engineers' newest collegiate design competition. Teams of engineering students from participating schools take a stock snowmobile and reengineer it to reduce emissions and noise while maintaining or improving performance.

Special Programs2006 was the fourth year that Michigan Tech has hosted the Challenge at its Keweenaw Research Center.

Youth Engineering & Science Expo (YES! Expo)

The YES! Expo is a unique collaboration among state agencies, corporations, universities, youth organizations, professional societies, and business development organizations from throughout the midwest. Through hands-on exhibits, the goal is to inspire middle and high school students to pursue education and careers in science and engineering.

In a hands-on setting, corporate exhibitors expose students to exciting science and engineering careers. Universities and community colleges showcase the educational pathways to these careers and demonstrate the excitement of studying science and engineering. Special technology-based displays and exhibits fascinate students about the world of science and engineering. A high-energy live/multimedia show is presented several times during the day that highlights exciting technologies and fascinates students about the world of science, engineering, and technology.

Statistics show that in recent years the number of college-bound students indicating interest in science and engineering degrees in the U.S. has dropped dramatically. Industry leaders state that there are not going to be enough skilled engineers, scientists and technicians to fill the growing number of occupations.

Besides these trends, minorities and women are also under-represented in all areas of engineering and science. YES! Expo 2006 approached this problem by inspiring and encouraging students in grades 8-12 to choose careers in engineering and science.

Special exhibiters included Cranbrook Institute of Science, The New Detroit Science Center, FIRST Robotics, Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit, Habitat for Humanity Detroit, the Henry Ford Museum, NASA and the U. S. Department of Education.

The final participation numbers for 2006:

  • 47 companies
  • 25 post-secondary institutions including 15 public universities
  • 15 organizations
  • 15,000+ students representing 205 schools
  • 340 school buses
  • 12 FIRST robotics teams
